How To Upset The Customers

Unfortunately for the past two days I've been in severe agony with a problem in my neck and left shoulder, so today as I've tried to carry out my normal duties, I felt I was getting shorter in my temperament when it came to dealing with people

So whilst working on the gate line a customer walks straight past me and made his way to the manual gate, in his hands he was carrying three blue carrier bags containing a minuscule amount of shopping, he looks at me and and nods his head towards the gate in the "are you going to open this or not" kind of why.

Me "Do you have your ticket"?
Him "Yeah it's in my pocket"
Me "Well you can use the gate then".

Shortly afterwards a man walks up with an absolutely huge suitcase.

Him "Will you carry this downstairs for me"
Me "No I don't think so".
Him "Why not, it's part of your job"

Wrong, we can and often do help customers with luggage, but it's up to the individual in question.

Me "Sorry I'm not employed to carry a suitcase the size of a small country".

If these two customers had asked me politely they may have got a decent service from me.

  • I've worked with the public for 22 years and I am still surprised by the rudeness and general lack of respect people like me recieve.

  • Good for you. I hate the laziness of people who can't be bothered to get out their tickets and use the barriers properly. I don't work for the tube or trains, but if I did, I'd be making everyone go through the barriers unless there was a problem with their ticket or had exceptionally big luggage.

  • ..the old people who just stand and *stare* at you as if you should psychically know that they have a Freedom Pass and it doesn't matter one jot that they're too lazy to get it out. Guh!

  • I like when old people walk upto the Manual gate and expect me to open it. When I ask them if they have a pass, they normally then go to the gates and use them whilst giving me dirty looks.
